Is this the calm before the storm? I am not sure, but I am beginning to think it just might be.

Today I was thinking about how many words need to be in each chapter for it to be engaging. The question came to me about the right combination of lows and highs to keep the reader interested enough to not only finish the story, but to like the story.

Sure, I have heard of Save the Cat method and then there is always The Hero’s Journey.

There is even talks about how to structure a chapter that reflects the setting of a short story.

But the thing I question the most is how to sprinkle dialogue with disposition? What to say and when to say it? How to make the character tell you enough about their backstory, but not get stuck in the past while recapping?

I will probably have an answer for you in the coming days as I write more, after all, experience is a great teacher.

So what did I do today?

I wrote 6,969 words and took a two-hour break because I was feeling both nauseous and emotional. I cried as I looked over my work and wondered if any of it made sense.

If you don’t cry while writing, are you ever making progress?

Then I took a few more breaks throughout the day because it started snowing, and I was again emotional.

No, I am not pregnant. Just experiencing PMS.

Fight me!

Well, don’t, you might lose and that would be embarrassing.

Word Count: 9,181 words
